Research Policy in Bavaria
In this world of globalised markets and the almost unlimited flow of goods, science and research are not only the motors of technological progress. Scientific knowledge is itself fast becoming a "marketable product and economic asset". This is true for the industrialised nations and particularly for such highly sophisticated economic regions as Bavaria, which, paying high salaries as they do, can only survive on world markets if they are in the forefront of progress and have innovative products to offer.
Realising that we can only secure our long-term economic prosperity by providing sustained support for science and research, the Bavarian State Government is giving top priority to expanding its research landscape. In numerous future-oriented fields, Bavaria is among Europe's leading research locations.
The factors leading to this success are in particular:
- the general interest and welcome that the Free State accords to research
- the support given to research in all its size and diversity
- the quality of its university facilities, which enjoy a leading position in Germany
- the concerted support given to the choice of academic focus made by its universities.
It is on these reliable foundations that our efforts to continue developing the structure of research in Bavaria are built, with a view to maintaining and strengthening the high quality of Bavaria's university sector in the field of research.
