Contacts & Advice

International offices

The first and most important contact for prospective students from abroad is the International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt) of the university concerned. This office, which is specifically responsible for matters relating to foreign students, will advise students with regard to entrance requirements, the various programmes and degree qualifications, course planning, all social and personal affairs and the many sponsorship programmes, grants and scholarships.

The International Offices also work closely with the authorities responsible for the registration of foreign nationals so that questions relating to immigration and residence permits are clarified quickly and in good time.

University centres

In addition, special centres have been established for certain regions with which Bavaria has traditionally fostered close contact or where there has traditionally been great interest in student exchange. These centres have gathered the information on these regions and in some cases promote activities themselves. Among such centres are:

DAAD

General information on studying in Bavaria is available at the German Academic Exchange Service , Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD). The DAAD offers useful tips and important facts, e.g. concerning financial support and the availability of scholarships and grants.

Please note:

  • You should contact the International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt) of the university of your choice well in advance, at least six months before your course commences, and clarify any problems or doubts you may have. Ask the International Office about special orientation programmes for foreign students and about tutorial systems!
  • In addition, there are many student initiatives available specifically for your benefit: fairs for new students, conversation and work groups, choirs, orchestras, theatre groups and many other activities. Make use of these opportunities to settle in and make friends.
