Dates & Deadlines

Official enrolment is necessary for all degree programmes. The universities will let you know the enrolment dates. Normally, you must appear in person to enrol.

Please note:

It is an absolute must that you take note of the various deadlines (for aptitude tests, admission and enrolment) and of required qualifications.

Another important source of information is the International Office ("Akademisches Auslandsamt") at the university in question. Contact the International Office well in advance, at least six months before your course commences, and clarify any problems or doubts you may have.

Academic year

Universities

The academic year is divided into two semesters: winter and summer semester. The vacations are used for writing seminar papers, for tests and practical training, or simply to relax.

At Bavarian Universitäten (universities), classes will be held:

from 17th October 2011 to 11th February 2012 in the winter semester of 2011/2012,
from 16th April to 21th July 2012 in the summer semester of 2012,
from 15th October 2012 to 9th February 2013 in the winter semester of 2012/2013,
from 15th April 2013 to 20th July 2013 in the summer semester of 2013,
from 14th October 2013 to 8th February 2014 in the winter semester of 2013/2014,
from 7th April 2014 to 12th July 2014 in the summer semester of 2014,
from 6th October 2014 to 31st January 2015 in the winter semester of 2014/2015,
from 13th April 2015 to 18th July 2015 in the summer semester of 2015,
from 12th October 2015 to 6th February 2016 in the winter semester of 2015/2016.

Universities of applied sciences

At Bavarian Hochschulen für angewandte Wissenschaften (universities of applied sciences), classes will be held:

from 4th October 2011 to 25th January 2012 in the winter semester 2011/2012,
from 15th March to 10th July 2012 in the summer semester of 2012,
from 1st October 2012 to 25th January 2013 in the winter semester 2012/2013.
